Presently this documentation is intended mainly for developers, who
are already experienced in programming with EASY (Turbo Datenbank or
Visual Data Publisher).
Fundamentals
For CGI-programming you don't need to have internet access. You can
develop and test all programs offline. You can create an environment,
which simulates the behavior of a normal web-server exactly. But
you can also program in the web without the long way
of ftp-up- and -downloads. At present we support following
platforms:
Win95/98
Win NT (x86)
Linux (x86)
FreeBSD
Besides the tdbengine-package, you will also need a
http-server like apache or iis. There are many http-servers
around, with a majority being free, but several cost a hatful
of money. The most popular http-server Apache is freeware.
Before you can get busy with the installation of the
tdbengine-package, you must install an operational http-server on your
computer. In addition you'll need any one webbrowser (Netscape,
Explorer or others).
Test your system, by calling the URL: http:/localhost/ in
your browser (without being online). The start page of your
server should appear now.
Advice: This documentation is available is Russian, too.
The texts are not up to date at all, but might help you to get the first foot into the door.
